Our musical journeys begin again

… in new rehearsal room

Throughout Baden-Württemberg, choirs or orchestras will still not be allowed to use the premises of schools for their rehearsals until February 1, 2021. However, the Stuttgarter Oratorienchor e.V. has fortunately found a new rehearsal venue. On September 18, 2020, at around 7 p.m., we plan to finally resume our rehearsal work in the parish hall of the Erlöserkirche in Stuttgart with our musical director Enrico Trummer. There the choir will find a generous amount of space in the Great Hall and the recommended spacing rules for singing can be followed here without any problems. New singers are very welcome!

… with new way of singing

We must take care to limit the spread of aerosols. For the time being, every choir singer sings with a protective mask. Certainly many have the feeling of singing solo and have to get used to completely new sound impressions. Familiar voices that were previously easy to hear from all sides will now be several meters away. But the Stuttgarter Oratorienchor will certainly master this challenge as well.

… with new program for the Christmas concert

Due to the still uncertain concert situation in the near future, we have decided to replace the originally planned “Christmas Oratorio” by J. S. Bach. In its place will be “The Shepherds’ Joy at the Birth of Jesus” by Gottfried August Homilius and the “Oratorio de Noël” by Camille Saint-Saëns, which is frequently performed in France. Peter Schleicher wrote a virtuoso arrangement for organ for both works. He himself will accompany us on a concert organ borrowed especially for this purpose, supplemented only by a harp. “Reduction” rather than original instrumentation is the key to performability everywhere at the moment. Let’s hope that our Christmas concert this year can take place in Stuttgart’s Matthäuskirche on the 3rd Sunday of Advent.
